New officers for E.G.A.

February 8, 2001
Elberton Granite Association, Inc. Board of Trustees. (Seated, from left): Mark Hill of Hillcrest Granite Co.; Chuck Martin of Martin Granite Co.; Bob Paul of Eagle Granite Co.; Harold Reynolds of Reynolds Marble and Granite Co.; Marty Walker of Walker Granite Co., Inc. (standing, from left); John D. McLanahan, Jr. of Republic Granite Co.; John Campbell of Dixie Granite Co., Jim Welch of Welch's Granite Co., Tom Oglesby of Keystone Memorials, Inc., and Thomas A. "Tom" Robinson.

ELBERTON, GA -- John D. McLanahan, Jr., an emerging young leader in the Elberton granite industry, has been named president of the Elberton Granite Association, Inc. (E.G.A.). Other 2000-2001 officers named by the Board of Trustees include Jim Welch of Welch's Granite Co. (vice president) and Bob Paul of Eagle Granite Co. (treasurer).

McLanahan, of Republic Granite Co. and Elberton Granite Industries, succeeds John Campbell of Dixie Granite Co. as E.G.A. president. The new officers were elected in July, following an annual meeting of the E.G.A. membership at which three new trustees were named to the board.

McLanahan is a fourth-generation member of a granite industry pioneer family which has extensive monument manufacturing and quarrying interests. Republic Granite Co. also operates Highpoint and Sterling granite companies, and the "Blue Dawn Gray" and "Sunset Pink" granite quarries in Elbert County.

The granite enterprises were founded in 1924 by McLanahan's great grandfather, the late John J. McLanahan, and John D. McLanahan, Jr. succeed his grandfather as director of operations for the granite companies.

At the E.G.A. annual meeting in June, Bob Paul of Eagle Granite Co., Inc., Tom Oglesby of Keystone Memorials, Inc. and Marty Walker of Walker Granite Co., Inc. were elected to three-year terms on the Board of Trustees. Oglesby and Walker are both past presidents of the E.G.A.

The three new trustees join carry-over board members Mark Hill of Hillcrest Granite Co., Harold Reynolds of Reynolds Marble and Granite Co., Jim Welch of Welch's Granite Co., John Campbell and John McLanahan.

Thomas A. "Tom" Robinson, CAE, was re-elected as E.G.A. Executive Vice President. Robinson, who joined the E.G.A. staff in 1980, is responsible for daily operations, implementing programs and activities, and representing the association and local, state and national levels.
