Laticrete donates to food bank fundraiser

Laticrete donated its SpectraLOCK® PRO Grout to Mosaico-Houston artists for projects the group will submit to the Seventh Annual Empty Bowls Houston fundraiser.

HOUSTON, TX -- Laticrete, a global leader in the manufacturing of innovative systems for the installation of tile and stone, has donated its flagship grout product, Laticrete® SpectraLOCK® PRO Grout to Mosaico-Houston artists for projects the group will submit to the Seventh Annual Empty Bowls Houston fundraiser in support of the mission of the Houston Food Bank. Artists across various mediums design, create and submit empty bowls as a symbol to remind us of how many among us go without proper nutrition and healthy meals each day. At the annual event hosted by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, the bowls are sold and the funds raised are used to provide nutritious meals for the less fortunate in the Houston area.
Sharon Plummer of Plum Art Mosaics and Roxana Nizza of Nizza Mosaic Studio, members of the Mosaico-Houston collaborative, have found award-winning success in recent years working with Laticrete SpectraLOCK PRO Grout and the many colors available in the easy-to-use, easy-to-clean grout. Using Laticrete SpectraLOCK PRO Grout to enhance designs with consistent color in a high-performance grout product that will never fade with time, Mosaico-Houston hopes to increase on last year's impressive total when the team contributed 13 empty bowls in the 2011 Empty Bowls Houston scheduled for Saturday, March 19, 2011.
The Houston Empty Bowls Steering Committee invites ceramists, mosaicists, woodturners, woodworkers, hot and warm glass artists, fiber artsists, metalsmiths, painters and sculptors to create and donate handmade bowls for the seventh-annual event from March 1 through March 18. Last year, artists contributed over 1,200 bowls and raised over $43,000, enough for the Houston Food Bank to provide three nutritional meals on any given day for 44,000 people in the Houston area.
