In 1968, Luiz Scaramussa — with the support of his entire family — combined a small shed and a single gangsaw to start a sawmill to produce Santo Antonio white marble. It was the beginning of Santo Antonio Granitos, originally located in Vargem Alta, Brazil. “Little by little, what once was a small property gained bigger proportions,” said Giovani Araldi of Santo Antonio Granitos Ltda. “In 1978, the first advancement of the company transferred its headquarters to a new location, Safra, in the city of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim.” Along with the factory in Safra, the block yard is located in Aracruz. In 2003, the company expanded again with a warehouse and headquarters in Mont Libano.
While the Safra factory sits on 19,000 square meters and has 49 workers, the Mont Libano location spans 120,000 square meters and includes a 40,000-square-meter factory with 65 workers. “If it wasn’t for the employees’ invaluable contributions, Santo Antonio’s development would not have had the accomplishment and growth that it has experienced over the last decades,” said Araldi. “From the cradle to today, transformations in the national and international economic environment were significant, surely interfering directly on the company’s [success].”
