On page 56 of this issue of Stone World, we are showcasing a private residence in South Carolina with an edge detail that I haven’t seen in my 20 years-plus here at the magazine. The fabricator — Joe Blackmon of Grassie Granite and Marble — called it a “scalloped edge,” and if you look at the photos, you can see why he came up with this name. The homeowner wanted something that his neighbors didn’t have, and I can assure you, he got his wish on this project.
Personally, I don’t know that I would be going for an edge detail like that — the fabricator agreed that this is not likely the start of an explosive “scalloped edge trend” — but from a perspective of pure stoneworking, it is certainly interesting.
