James D. LaRue Architects selected local limestone for the design of an Austin, TX, residence, and the material use runs from the exterior to the interior
Nestled along a steep hillside, a private residence in Austin, TX, was completed under the direction of Jim LaRue, AIA, of James D. LaRue Architects in Austin, TX. In designing the 6,442-square-foot home, the architect chose to employ Texas limestone to provide a signature look for the exterior, with the same stone also accentuating the interior.
“The overall design goal of this project was to complete a harmonious Hill Country contemporary design that marries itself with the landscape in which it sits,” said LaRue. “The forms and massing are quite simple and unimposing, while the expansive use of glass captures the fabulous views beyond.” In addition, LaRue wanted the home to be buried into the sloping site as it was built, and to be viewed from across the valley. “I wanted the home to become a horizontal element,” he said.
