For the expansion of a private residence in Texas, the architect selected local limestone to work in conjunction with a modern design and materials palette
In conceiving the addition to a private residence in the Dallas, TX, area, the goal for Stephen B. Chambers Architects, Inc. was to amplify the modernity of the design, create a stronger relationship with the natural amenities of the site and adjacent lake; and add regional character. These goals were met through the use of Texas limestone, which fits into the overall context while providing an element of warmth and comfort. Noel Barrick, AIA, is the owner of the home and a principal at HKS, Inc., one of the leading international proponents of sustainability in commercial architecture.
“It was important to reflect the company’s values in the design of this addition,” Chambers said. “This was accomplished through the use of sustainable materials, protecting the current environment, and preserving the embodied energy of the existing structure. The trough that creates a 12-foot waterfall into the lake is a visual and auditory reminder of the importance of water in Texas Regional design.”
