“Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in the U.S.,†said Project Landscape Architect Jim Fetterman of The HOK Planning Group in St. Louis, MO. “It also was the site of the 1904 World's Fair and World's Olympics, which is a little-known fact. There was a need to create a master plan for the restoration of Forest Park, and it was done in 1995. A variety of projects were tackled within the park. We were very fortunate to have been involved in the restoration of the Grand Basin and Post Dispatch Lake.â€
A total of 500 tons of New Caledonia granite with a flamed finish -- supplied by Global Granite & Marble of St. Louis, MO -- was utilized for paving and steps around the basin. The material was quarried in Brazil by Gramil Granitos E Marmores Itapemirim Ltda. of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
