Providing a range of innovative stonework

A range of unique stone applications can be found at a private residence in North Carolina, including a curving grand staircase of Navona travertine. All of the stone in the home was supplied and fabricated by Granite and Marble by Malavé of Greensboro, NC.

At a private residence in North Carolina, the stonework that was fabricated and installed make the home a virtual exhibition of the possibilities in natural stone. The homeowner and stone supplier collaborated to create a one-of-a-kind space in several rooms of the residence, highlighted by innovative stonework.
The stone was fabricated and installed by Granite and Marble by Malavé of Greensboro, NC, one of the first fabricators located in this region of the state. Innovative and unique uses of stone are prevalent not only in the kitchen and bathroom spaces, but also in the common areas of the home. A curving grand staircase of Navona travertine provides a flair for the dramatic, as the stone was used for both custom-cut stair treads and risers. Meanwhile, the floor utilizes large-scale tiles of Navona travertine set within a grid of natural oak planking. The dark tones of the wood effectively contrast the neutral tones of the travertine, creating an eye-catching aesthetic for visitors to the home.
The kitchen space also features several stone innovations. A multi-tiered countertop was fabricated from Baltic Brown granite, which was originally quarried in Finland. The same stone was also used for a riser between the two countertops as well as a full-height backsplash.
The kitchen floor is comprised of Turkish travertine tiles, which were installed in an offset pattern to provide visual interest. The same material was also used in a custom-cut tile format for the stove hood.
For the master bathroom, the homeowner and stone fabricator/installer selected marble from Spain. Dark Emperador marble tiles were used for the floor, and the same material was used in a slab format for several other applications in the space. These elements include the vanity top, the tub surround and slab shower walls - a specialty for Granite and Marble by Malavé.
