Stone World FABRICATION WORKSHOPS ARE SET FOR 2006 . . .

After a very successful run in 2005 that included stops on the West Coast (Burbank, Anaheim and Oakland) and the Northeast (Newark, Long Island and Boston), Stone World has released the 2006 schedule for its Stone Fabrication Workshops. Dates will be as follows:

September 14-Detroit, MI
October 23-Ft. Lauderdale, FL
October 24-Orlando, FL
October 26-Atlanta, GA
The 2005 Stone Fabrication Workshops were a tremendous success, with solid attendance at all sessions. They were also highly rated by attendees during post-session evaluations - achieving high marks for content, speaker knowledge and the interactive nature of the sessions. Topics included:

  • Determining and Applying Fabrication Costs
  • Fabricating Engineered Stone - How to Repair and Polish It
  • Granite - Are Repairs Acceptable?
  • Stone Defects and Natural Occurrences
  • Resined Slabs - Are They a Problem?
  • OSHA Requirements
  • Air/Water Purification
  • Templating
  • Management Strategies to Effectively Run the Fabrication Shop
  • Tips on Updating and Expanding the Fabrication Shop to Maximize Production
Speakers include respected industry experts, Kevin Padden, Keith Graves and Fred Hueston. A registration fee of $195 includes the full one-day workshop, all workshop meals (continental breakfast, lunch and beverages), an informational CD-ROM and other materials from Workshop sponsors.

Following each workshop, a Networking Reception allowed the fabricators to discuss issues with the speakers as well as with other fabricators.

Surfaces 2013 preview

Surfaces 2013 -- to be held in conjunction with StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas -- is slated for January 29 to 31 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. The show, which also includes an extensive educational program that will be held from January 28 to 31, provides a place for thousands of floor covering retailers, distributors, installers, architects, designers and builders from around the world to gather and view the latest products, get vital education, network with other floor covering professionals and conduct business.

More than 600 of the largest manufacturers and suppliers representing products in every major category, including carpet, tile, hardwood, rugs, laminate, resilient and stone, are expected to exhibit at the trade show. Hanley Wood, owner and operator of the exhibition, reports that they have many new exhibiting companies and returning ones who have expanded their booth size. Additionally, Surfaces 2013 will host more than 40 workshops, seminars and mini sessions led by industry experts in the fields of business, sales, marketing, installation and design. Attendees can earn AIA, NKBA, AIBD, IICRC and AIA/CES industry designation. Here is just a small sampling of some of the displays that will be present at Surfaces 2013.
