The Marble Institute of America (MIA) announced today that it is accepting pre-publication orders for its newly revised and significantly expanded Dimension Stone Design Manual, Version VI, which will be available for shipment this month.

Substantial discounts of up to 60% are being offered to MIA members, architects and others who place their order for the comprehensive reference manual before publication.

MIA members pay $35 per manual on orders placed by November 15; $50 for orders placed between November 16 and December 15; or $90 on orders placed after December 15. Architects pay $50 per manual on orders placed by November 15; $65 for orders placed between November 16 and December 15; or $99 for orders placed after December 15. Non-members pay $60 per manual on orders placed by November 15; $90 for orders placed between November 16 and December 15; or $175 on orders placed after December 15.

The manual is considered to be the most authoritative technical resource in the natural stone industry, used by thousands of stone contractors, design professionals and construction specifiers. The newest edition has over 350 pages and features five new chapters and extensive enhancements throughout, according to Garis F. Distelhorst, MIA Executive Vice President. “MIA's Design Manual has long been considered the 'Bible' of the stone industry,” Distelhorst said. “Now, it has undergone the most extensive revision in its history, making it an even more essential tool for stone and design professionals.”

A team of more than 30 stone industry experts, including MIA's Technical Director, Vincent Migliore, and current and past MIA Presidents Rich Booms, Jeffrey Matthews, Bernie Polak, and Joe Kapcheck, reviewed and updated the entire manual, which was originally published in 1971 and last updated in 1999. In addition to technical data, installation guidelines and maintenance recommendations for all types of stone, Version VI also features new chapters on: The Geology of Stone; Serpentine; Travertine; Restoration & Refinishing; and Standards and Specifications for Stone Products.

An appendix with reference charts, suggested warranty contracts and residential installation contracts, an expanded glossary of industry terms and a comprehensive index for quick reference also have been added.

For more information on the Dimension Stone Design Manual, Version VI, or to place an order, visit the MIA Web site at or call 440-250-9222.
