Grand Prize winner

WHEELING, IL - T&M Supply Cos. of Wheeling, IL, recently won a Grand Prize in the 2002 National Association of Store Fixture Man-ufacturer's (NASFM) Retail Design Award Competition for its designer stone showroom.

The NASFM announced that the T&M Supply showroom had won the grand prize in the category of "New or Remodeled Hardline Specialty Stores from 3,000 square feet to 10,000 square feet," on April 18, 2002. Retailers, designers and store fixture manufacturers were recognized in the awards ceremony, which took place in the Vista Ballroom of McCormick Place during GlobalShop in Chicago. This year's winning entries integrated strong brand identity into their store and fixture designs. Many used traditional materials in unique ways to support their store brands. Projects were completed between January and December of 2001.

"We are extremely proud to have been recognized by such a prestigious group," said Jeff Dahlberg, T&M's vice president. "Our showroom was among top companies such as Disney, Toys R Us, Marshall Fields, Carnival Cruise Lines, Neiman Marcus and so many others. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into the planning and construction of our showroom. We owe so much to our architectural firm, The DePalma Group of Chicago, who helped us to create a showroom that would appeal to both the trade specifiers and retail consumers."

The 8,500-square-foot showroom features product vignettes and lifestyle photography to simulate creative natural stone usage. Wood fixtures from Woodmasters Design & Manufacturing of Bolingbrook, IL, were made sturdy enough to support the weight of natural stone products. "Our natural stone selections are ever-changing," said Dahlberg. "We needed fixtures that would not only support the weight of the stones, but also be flexible enough for us to change the displays on a weekly basis."

The Wheeling showroom features over 500 stones that are in stock and over 2,500 samples that are available on special order. The public is invited to select granite, marble, limestone, slate, onyx and travertines for their homes.

The showroom is located at 77 South Wheeling Road and is open to the public Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
