In this issue of Contemporary Stone & Tile Design, we have our annual focus on “Kitchen & Bath Design.” We chose projects that not only use natural stone and tile, but also that use sintered material, which seems to be a growing trend. These kitchen and bath projects are in extremely different regions of the U.S., including New York City, southern California and Florida, and each have their own interesting story.

On page 16, we showcase a once outdated Park Avenue apartment in Manhattan, which was revived with a range of custom mosaic and stone tile. Not only was the apartment’s kitchen remodeled, but the couple decided to design their own his and hers bathrooms.

For the feature beginning on page 20, marble and limestone were used to renovate the master and guest bathrooms in a California home. The owners wanted to revamp their bathrooms by eliminating existing walls to create a more open feel and the ability to fit a Jacuzzi tub.

The final Kitchen & Bath feature focuses on a design consultant who uses her own kitchen as a studio showroom. In the long search for the perfect material to use for her living/work space, she decided on Neolith by TheSize. The material gave her the beautiful aesthetic of marble, along with the durability necessary for the application.

In addition to the series of Kitchen & Bath articles, we also feature a repurposing and relocation of a home in West Austin, TX, and discuss the dramatic changes they made to their residence and their barn. You can read more about it on page 34 of this issue.

Here at Contemporary Stone & Tile Design, we are also excited to bring back one-on-one interviews with architects and designers. Our first interview is with Sophie Lubin, an interior designer for REDCOM Design & Construction, to discuss the trends she is seeing in stone and tile and the projects she has worked on.

Finally, on page 10 we show a roundup of products that were on display at Cersaie, the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings, which took place this past fall in Bologna, Italy. The product review illustrates some of the new and exciting tile designs that were recently revealed.
