Cersaie announces new theme and dates for 2013

BOLOGNA, ITALY -- The concept to be used for the 2013 edition of Cersaie, the international exhibition of ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings in Bologna, Italy, alludes to the everyday activity of putting out wash while underscoring the excellence of Italian ceramics. It is a strikingly simple idea that fully captures the soul of Italian ceramics.

The concept for the show was created by Luigi Capraro, a student from the ISIA institute in Bologna who won the third edition of the Beautiful Ideas competition. Promoted by Confindustria Ceramica and Edi.Cer, the competition invites students at Italian university faculties and design institutes to create the image for the following year’s edition of the international show.

The theme of this third edition of the competition was "Cersaie, in praise of normality," an invitation to take an objective look at the world as it really is, to consider ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings as elements that belong to the sphere of everyday living, both historically and in terms of their expressive and functional potential.

From almost 150 submissions by 120 students from 10 design schools across Italy, the jury members -- Michele De Lucchi, Beppe Finessi, Franco Origoni and Lia Piano -- chose Luigi Capraro from ISIA in Bologna as this year’s winner.

Cersaiewill run from Monday, September 23 to Friday, September 27, which has been changed from previous years. The start of the show has been moved to the Monday to enable exhibitors to devote more time to foreign buyers, whose attendance will be spread out over five working days.
