Located in the heart of the stoneworking region of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Espirito Santo, Brazil, Gramil Granitos e Mármores Itapemirim Ltda. has been a leading company in the industry for almost 30 years. Today, the company - which is owned by Attila Vieira Secchin and Marcos Vieira Secchin - has continued its track record of success by offering quality materials processed by the latest generation of stoneworking technology.
In total, Gramil operates nine quarries, and it produces 13 materials, including Giallita, Crema Bordeaux, Super Gray, Crema Brown, Lake Shore, Ipanema White, Polar White, Dakar, Rosa Carolina (located in Espirito Santo) Niagara, Azul do Mar and Seafom Blue (located in Bahia).
The company supplies slabs, tiles and cut-to-size stonework to some of the most demanding markets in the world, such as the U.S., Germany, Israel, France and many other countries. Gramil’s largest export target is the U.S., which represents 70% of sales - mainly slabs. About 10% of sales are in Europe (primarily blocks and cut-to-size work), and the domestic market represents 20%, mainly cut-to-size work.
Gramil offers a total of 50 material types, many of which are extracted from quarries that are explored exclusively by Gramil. The company also owns several reserves of granite, marble and quartzite to be explored in the near future.
Stoneworking plant
With an industrial park of almost 540,000 square feet, Gramil is among the larger stoneworking companies in Brazil, and it employs a range of state-of-the-art equipment, including the following:• Four gangsaws from F. Meccanica/Frugoli
• A diamond wire saw from Pellegrini
• Two automatic slab polishing lines from F. Meccanica
• One automated resin line from F. Meccanica
• One CNC stoneworking center from Breton
• One automated edge polisher from Comandulli
• One bridge saw from Zonato
The factory’s production capacity stands at over 80 containers per month. “We have been producing about 50 containers per month at the moment, although our goal is to produce 80 containers per month in a near future,” the company stated. Future machinery investments will include a second edge polisher and a waterjet.
Gramil employs a total of 130 workers, including 50 in the quarries and 80 in the factory and offices. In general, new employees are trained in-house, and the Cachoeiro region has a rich culture in stoneworking.
The company sells primarily to importers, and its products are distributed from coast to coast in the U.S. market. It reports that its materials can be found in almost all American states. Although products being shipped to the U.S. include tiles, panels and cut-to-size work, approximately 90% of the material being shipped to America is in slab format.
