In 1986, brothers Babu and Anand Reddy launched Hindustan Marble and Granites (HMG), a processing unit in Bangalore, India. Ten years after launching operations, their third brother, Vishwanath, joined the team. Today, HMG serves as a leading processor of marble and granite blocks in India and its U.S. operations are bolstered by warehouse facilities in Brooklyn and Long Island, NY.

In its earlier days, HMG would supply raw blocks to local fabricating facilities in India, which were equipped with gangsaws and tile lines to cut the stone for projects. The company maintained full control over quality and schedules. With an increase in their overseas operations, HMG decided to build a complete slab processing plant with state-of-the art equipment, including three Barsanti gangsaws and line polishers. Scheduled to start in September 2004, this facility, along with others, is expected to process nearly 300,000 square feet of granite and marble per month with a cut-to-size facility to cater to large projects.

In 1999, HMG became one of the first companies to import Italian marble into the south Indian market. Now, HMG is one of the largest marble importers, with a wide variety of material imported from various countries, including Italy, Spain, France, Norway, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Oman and Brazil. HMG exports materials mainly to markets in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

By visiting trade shows, quarries and processing plants, the brothers are able to expand their knowledge on various stone colors and styles.

HGM has twice won the best display in Inside Outside magazine's exhibition, and has been placed as one of the best stalls in Stona, a stone expo that showcases stone processors and trade buyers.

HGM's owners attribute their success to its 200 hard-working employees, and their strong relationships with quarry owners and other suppliers.

U.S. Operations

In the late 1980s, Babu Reddy went to work for a major construction company in the U.S., and noticed a void in the stone supply. After returning to the U.S. for a second time, Reddy had his mind set at becoming a stone distributor for the building industry. In Brooklyn, NY, he established Hindustan Granites Inc. (HGI), a wholesaler and distributor of granite, marble and other natural stone. His degrees in civil and structural engineering helped him earn the trust of architects and interior designers all across the Northeast and beyond, according to the company. HGI operates from two warehouses, one in Brooklyn, and its headquarters in Hauppauge, NY. The company gained attention from the stone market by supplying stone for projects like, G.Fox Departmental stores, Foxwood Casino, Hilton Hotels, and the University of Connecticut. From the quarry to the distribution, Hindustan Granites, Inc. has full control over importing, inventory, and delivery.
