Will fabricators be buying equipment in 2010?
by Michael Reis, Editor
Every January, Stone World,
presents our annual Fabricator Market Forecast, where hundreds of stone fabrication professionals from around the country offer their predictions for the coming year as well as their expectations for the long-term. And up to a few years ago, this report was a real love-fest. Basically it was a re-affirmation that the stone industry was booming, and that fabricators across the board were investing back into their facilities to equip themselves for long-term growth. And we're not just talking about a few new hand tools, either. Four years ago, nearly a quarter of those polled (24%) said they were planning to purchase a CNC stoneworking center that year. Last year, that number dropped to
10.5% and, frankly, my personal guess is that less than half of those people actually went through with those plans as 2009's financial woes dragged on. Click here to read more. |

Exclusive Stone World Survey: Fabricators predict improvement for 2010
by Michael Reis, Editor
For many American stone fabricators, 2009 was the most difficult year ever to run a business. Since many fabrication shops in the U.S. are relatively young in age (typically less than 20 years old), business owners have never felt a recession that came close to what we've seen over the past few years. But for the most part, fabricators feel that the worst is behind us, and they are relatively optimistic for 2010 and beyond. These are the results of a survey conducted by the Market Research Department at BNP Media (Stone World's parent company), and it polled a cross-section of fabricators across the U.S., including large and small firms as well as relatively new and
well-established companies. Click here to read more results. |
